The Stanhope Community Building houses city offices, the public library, and a large meeting room equipped with kitchen facilities. The community building is located south of the park at 665 Iowa Street. The Stanhope Public Library provides Internet access in addition to offering a wide variety of reading and audio-visual materials. The Stanhope City Park offers a wide range of uses and activities. Located near the community building, you'll find playground equipment, a food stand/shelter house, a baseball diamond with bleachers, and a second covered shelter. The city park is where Watermelon Day and Wednesday Night in the Park take place. |

Stanhope and the surrounding area is covered by the Cooperative Telephone Exchange, which is located at 425 Parker Street. The Stanhope Municipal Electric Utility provides electricity for Stanhope.
The Water Treatment Plant is located at 595 Bute Street (Map), adjacent to the community building. All Stanhope water is provided by town wells and softened at the plant.
Safe and efficient natural gas service is offered by Peoples Natural Gas, served by their Webster City office. The telephone number for Peoples is (800) 832-0432.
Liquid propane is available from Heartland Co-Op, a full line farmers' cooperative located at 515 Railway Street. (Map) The Co-Op phone number is (515) 826-3225.

Every local household is billed monthly for garbage service, with Wednesday being the garbage collection day in Stanhope. Stanhope also has a recycling container just east of the Stanhope Car Wash.
The following utilities are billed from the city office monthly for all Stanhope residents: electric, water, sewer, garbage and landfill. There is a utility drop box located near the front entrance of the community building. |

The U.S. Post Office is located at 605 Park Street. (Map) Access to post office boxes is 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. Mail is dispatched 4:15 daily except Sundays. The counter is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to Noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. It's open 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. Saturdays. |

Stanhope is part of the South Hamilton Community School District, with all K-12 attending classes in Jewell, eight miles east of Stanhope. Two school buses transport Stanhope students to and from school. The school completed a 5.4 million-dollar renovation of the elementary building in 2000.

The Stanhope Parish is one of three churches in Stanhope. The congregation is made up of Methodist and Disciples of Christ members. In 1997, the Methodist church in town was torn down and both ministries, which had already been conducting church services together, joined in the Disciples of Christ building and adopted the title 'Stanhope Parish.'
During the summer, worship is held at 9:00 a.m. Sunday mornings with coffee and fellowship following. During the rest of the year, worship is held at 10:00 a.m. following the adult and child Sunday Schools, which are held at 9:00. To contact the Stanhope Parish, call (515) 826-3367. |
